Sailors Of SA Are Set For New National League

Top international sailors from South Africa are set to meet on Milnerton Aquatic Club on this weekend. They are meeting to support the new national Team Sailing League (TAL).


Asenathi Jim, the two-time Olympians and Roger Hudson will be accompanied by new teammate of Jim, Sibu Sizatu, and many others on Saturday at the exhibition event.

Hudson the RaceAhead Foundation co-founder, said the initiative develops some of the top sailing talent of South African as well as it provides support to them to compete internationally.

He said, “Most of our sailors and training partners competing with us at the TSL launch in the exhibition race has came via the RaceAhead Foundation.”

Jim, 25, who is born in the Eastern Cape, has been benefited from RaceAhead. He said, “Roger was the one who saw my talent offered me the opportunity and, supported me; when he met with me, he said I can make it to the London Olympics. And I replied to him that, I am ready to give everything that I can get there”.

Hudson and Jim have been partners since 2009. Both have competed at Olympic London 2012 and Rio Olympic 2016.

In addition to that, they have competed in many other events in the professional world sailing circuits.

Hudson said, “We won many events on the circuit and have reached into the top of the world ranking. We reached to height of No 9, and won a sailing world championship in 2012 together”.

At the age of 10, Jim was introduced to sailing, and he said, the love for the sailing sport grew in him when he came to Cape Town.

Others participants in the league will be raising star Alex Burger, Benji Daniel. For South Africa, all of them have done very well.
