TUGBOAT TOLERS is a group of decorative painters, who want to share their joy of painting with you. The Tugboat Tolers is a non-profit organization of painters including beginners, intermediates and teachers from all over western Washington and the Puget Sound area. Our goal is to stimulate interest and appreciation for tole and decorative art through fellowship and learning opportunities. Monthly meetings provide for a hands-on development of skills, a sharing of ideas, a great chance to socialize, and participation in worthwhile community projects.
In April, 1992, eighteen interested persons came to the first meeting and set out to form an affiliated chapter of The Society of Decorative Painters. The Puget Sound Tugboat Tolers was fully affiliated in May 1994, after fulfilling all Society requirements. Membership at that time was 32. The present census is 56.
The Puget Sound Tugboat Tolers sponsors five evening Paint-Ins and at least one National Teacher a year. Every other month, a member taught, three hour painting class is available. A wide variety of fun packed projects are mastered in these classes. The Tugboat Tolers have become a guiding light for the perpetuation of Tole and Decorative painting in Kitsap County.
Our membership comprises of teachers whose mediums & styles vary from acrylic, oils, watercolors, pen & ink, Russian Zhostova, realism, floral, folk art, etc. Teachers can be found who teach Basic, Intermediate or Advanced level classes.
We meet 11 times a year, on the 3rd Monday of each month and usually the first Monday in December for our Christmas Party and Installation of new officers. Meetings are held at the Peace Lutheran Church, 1234 Riddle Rd., Bremerton. Doors open at 6:00 P.M., Demo starts at 6:30 P.M., General Meeting starts at 7:00 P.M.
